Beggar's HeartI watched you run down a dusty Paris street  With my cracked glass heart held in your palm  Cradled safe against the altar of your skin  As your heels kicked away the ghosts that dwelt  Lazy in the labyrinths that lay beneath  Magic-worn cobblestones as the day closed  Edged with the thin gold leaf of forlorn hopes.   
I chased you through emerald fields in Ireland  And watched you spill out onto the grass  Like the sweet red berries of summer wine  Tumbling between my lips and clasping me in  The home that you made of limbs and love  Curling me close with my head to your chest Beggar's Heart

VerdigrisYou told me that my eyes were like verdigris, green flayed bright over hidden rust. It was not an insult because it was the truth, because you looked at what rested behind my eyes and their expressions. I knew that you had watched me closely but I knew not what you had taken from the experience, or what you saw. My hands curled against the wrought iron railing that curved gracefully around the edge of the balcony, serving as barrier and support alike as it anchored this small platform to the house. Copper TroveTime makes a villain  Of an innocent man  And plays at the gambling tables  Of the rich and indolent  Crossing their palms with silver  As it takes away gold  To hang like a crucifix  At the throats of the damned  Punctured by greed  And taken without question  They clamor over fortunes  That are treasure troves  Comprised of brass and copper  Time sweeps aside memories  Of sunshine and laughter  Until metal money is the god  That rules over cities in dust  And murmurs Mephistopheles  To Faustus' tumultuous longings Copper Trove
